Temporary National Shortage of Blood test bottles due to a manufacturing problem

Posted by: gdriver - Posted on:

The practice has been informed that there is a national shortage of blood test bottles due to a manufacturing problem this is out of our control and we are being guided by national and local Guidance

GP Practices order their supply of bottles from central store and we have been informed that there is a temporary national shortage for the next 3 months.

For the next 3 months we have been asked to prioritise what bloods we can do as a practice and this will mean that unfortunately that some routine blood tests for such as Annual Reviews/ NHS Health checks will have to be postponed to ensure that we can use what supply of blood bottles we have for patients with the highest risk that need blood tests.

We will be reviewing all requests and you may receive a call or message to cancel your routine appointment, but you will be contacted to re book when we are informed that the stock levels have improved. Please note that Routine tests will only be deferred if clinically safe to do so.

Thank you for your cooperation at this time
